Cleanliness is a foundational requirement in AAA Diamond evaluations and carries significant weight across all tiers. Inspectors thoroughly assess cleanliness throughout the property—including guest rooms, bathrooms, public spaces, and amenity areas—checking for dust, dirt, stains, mold, and other indicators of poor upkeep. The addition of ATP surface testing provides scientific, objective verification of housekeeping effectiveness, reinforcing the importance of sanitation in the overall evaluation. A hotel with strong amenities and service but inadequate cleanliness cannot achieve or maintain a higher Diamond designation. Cleanliness failures during inspection may result in a lower rating or removal from the program altogether. At the upper Diamond tiers, expectations increase further, requiring immaculate maintenance and meticulous attention to detail in every part of the property.
