AAA Diamond designations are not permanent. Hotels must consistently meet AAA’s standards to maintain their status. During annual unannounced inspections, if a property shows a decline in quality, cleanliness, service, or maintenance, its Diamond designation may be lowered—or removed entirely. For example, a Four Diamond property may be reduced to Three Diamond if it no longer meets the expectations of its tier. Similarly, if a hotel fails to meet essential requirements for cleanliness or safety, it can lose its AAA designation altogether and be removed from AAA listings. This continuous evaluation process ensures that Diamond designations reflect current performance and remain a reliable indicator of quality—not past achievements.
