Well, as I stated in my message a little earlier this morning, I just found out about Bob's passing. This is truly heartbreaking. I was just thinking about Bob two days ago. I was looking at some lectures to be held at Biola and I thought "I'll probably see Bob there if I go".
I'll never forget the late night discussions with Bob at Mars Hill, or the excellent balance Bob (and you, Gretchen) provided to Hal Fleming at the Biola Panel discussion "Who Is Jesus Christ?" around 1987-88.
I had been planning on going back to Mars Hill and have some more conversations with Bob. I had hoped Bob would be part of a weekly televised Mars Hill (if that ever gets off the ground). The Lord has other plans.
In Christian apologetics, losing Bob is like losing the whole first string of a college football team because those players are graduating--God will fill the gap, but honestly it's hard to see how he will.
I am soooo glad I have those audio tapes of our discussions with Bob during Mars Hill. And, although some folks didn't like me videotaping Mars Hill on the one occasion, I am sooo glad I did...these are precious memories of classic Bob, and I will treasure those memories. I love you and Bob, and I just cannot adequately express my grief. I pray God continues to comfort you and your children, and richly bless your ministry. I rejoice that Bob is now no doubt having the time of his life conversing with Calvin, Aquinas, Luther...Walter Martin, etc.
I hope to see you soon!
