Every day I have read the comments posted on this site. It's amazing. I keep thinking about this one incident, and thought that Bob's friends might nod their heads.
Around 1980, Bob and Gretchen attended a lecture by John Warwick Montgomery, in my view the greatest apologist in the world at that time. I wasn't there, but this is what I remember about it. There was something in Montgomery's writings that Bob just thought was wrong (I remember him wondering about a citation of Aristotle, but don't know if this was the issue). Anyway, Bob asked a question, and Montgomery responded. Apparently, Bob was NOT satisfied and persisted, and persisted. Finally Montgomery said "You're too Intense!" This is especially humorous because Montgomery was one of the most logically incisive, go-for-the-throat debaters I've ever heard of, and a genuinely intense person in his own right.
But Bob's quest for the Truth made him fearless. He always wanted to get to the bottom of the issue and wouldn't be put off. Jesus said to knock and keep on knocking! That's how you get real answers.
