It is impossible to imagine that you will not be there on our next visit, calling out for Gretchen to find the book that you, in spite of all your powers of deduction and induction, cannot seem to locate on your own.
But, something tells me that you and the Apostle Paul will be going at it for awhile up there. (Finally, you will have met someone who can use unassailable logic and still kick your butt!)
You and Gretchen have healed the damaged faith of thousands. You have allowed us to believe with both our minds and our hearts. You have taught us to rejoice in truth and not simply in good feelings. You have made a home with an open door and an open hearth. You have displayed the riches of the Kingdom by sacrificing your own time, energy and money to causes far larger than yourselves. You have been patient with the young, the foolish, and the naÔve inside the faith. (We have been all these.) You have been eloquent and compelling with the jaded, the despairing and the resistant, outside the faith. You two have lived out an intimacy that could complete one-anotherís sentences.
There will be more of us today at your funeral to celebrate your life than showed up for your 50th birthday. You would enjoy it if you could be there Ėand something tells me you will be there laughing with us as you always have.
Still down here,
The Aronson Family (Bruce, Kim, Katelyn, Brieanne, and Meggy)
