Bob's tenacity in studying is something that has deeply influenced my life. I remember one time, many years ago, sitting and listening to people ask Bob Bible questions. As I listened to the questions I thought how I might answer them. I couldn't even come up with any answer to many of the questions that were being asked. Meanwhile, Bob would reply with an answer that was informative, logical, and profound. I said to myself "I have to have what this man has". He gave me, and countless others, the desire not only to know the truth, but to know how to study and think better. I still don't know all of the answers to questions that people ask me about the faith but Bob's example of scholarship and dedication to the faith is something that has changed my life forever.

Bob was always willing to take the time to sit down one on one and answer any question (no matter how simple or foolish) or discuss any issue. He knew so much, yet every time I spoke with him he made me feel like I was the smart one I still don't know how he did it. I had the extreme pleasure of spending part of Sunday, November 16th (the last full day of Bob's life) with Bob and Gretchen at an Answers in Action board meeting. Even at that meeting Bob made it seem like I was the smart one when it was obvious to everyone in the room that Bob was the real genius.

He was truly unaffected by money. With his intelligence and ability to learn he could have easily gone into a secular career and made a lot of money, but he chose to forsake all worldly wealth for a much higher calling which has now yielded him a much greater reward. I remember, more than once, sitting at an Answers in Action board meeting where Gretchen would say "Bob, you have to at least let the people at our Bible studies know that there is a place where they can leave an offering but you don't even mention it". I could tell that Bob knew that what Gretchen was saying was true but he didn't really want to hear it. He just wanted to teach people the Bible.

I see posted on the Answers in Action web site that the body of Christ has lost one of our greatest defenders of the faith I must disagree in my opinion we have lost THE greatest defender of the faith. Bob, we will always love and remember you. Gretchen, Paul, Mary, and Karen our prayers are with you.
