For all of us who had the great privilege to be blessed by the late Dr. Walter Martin, and learned so much from him, let us never forget that Dr. Martin could not have done it had it not been for Bob and Gretchen. How envious I feel at times that Bob and Gretchen had Dr. Martin so close to themselves, just to spend so many personal hours- and upon hours with him, to learn and be groomed for this apologetic ministry. How deeply do I feel the loss once again, now that another great giant has left us to go be with the Captain of our souls. But, we know Bob has gone to his great joy and reward, with the Blessed Lord Jesus. I did'nt follow your ministry as closely as I'd like to, but it was always a joy to hear you both on the BAM program. Always learned from you and was challenged when I disagreed. I am a Reformed brother, and one day I called to challenge Bob on free will, predestination, determinism, and so on. You gave me a real run for my money, Bob, (well, not money, you did'nt charge me a dime for your precious time, and I think you actually paid for the call!), and you told me to read some books that you recommended and then get back with you. Well, bro, that conversation will have to wait till I get to Heaven with you, and Calvin has straightened you out on all that stuff... Just kidding. I'm sure Jesus will straighten ALL OF US out on that final day!! And all that will matter then is, what manner of love the Father has given unto all His elect ones, whatever our theological differences while here in the temporal. God bless you Bob, even as He already has. Dance before your Lord! Bow before Him! Glorify Him and enjoy Him forever, for this is the duty- even the joy of the saints as we relish in the righteousness of our Lord Jesus Christ! Gretchen, carry on in the might and strength of God, your King! He will be your husband, your all, and He will strengthen your heavy heart, will lighten your load, will carry you through this short time of letting go of the love of your life, your beloved Bob. We cry with you. We enter that mystical paradox of pain and joy together with you as your beloved has entered the joy of his Lord. Jesus is with you. He is your all. Be strong our sister. We love you. And our prayers will rise to the throne of God continuously for you.
Thank you both, thank you, for the many many years of sacrifice on our behalf, Thank you for your love for the Body of the Lord Jesus. Thank you for your fine example of a beautiful Christian marriage and godly children you raised up for Christ. Thank you for everything, because it was God who works in you to do and will all you have accomplished together. Carry on.
Love Kenneth and Marilyn Petty
